Oil paint, acrylic paint on canvas

102x76 cm

2025

The aim of this piece is to provoke questions. Splashes of orange paint create a brand-new tune and flavor within the original, traditional drapery painting. This work poses the question of whether using a medium that requires neither control nor skill defiles the painting, or if the act of ‘destroying’ and ‘ruining’ the work actually elevates it.

This act challenges an artist’s work ethics by creating a stark contrast between precision and wildness on the same canvas. A photo of the painting was taken before it was stained, raising a third question: do the two previous debates matter if a near-perfect replica of the intended outcome already exists?

I was inspired to create this piece as both a debate and an observation in an era where technical skill and an artist’s direct participation are often diminished or dismissed altogether—a time when the majority appreciates an artwork for what it says rather than what it is.
